Robbie Fabbri’s 100th NHL goal wasn’t enough to lift the Anaheim Ducks past the Minnesota Wild Friday night at the Honda Center.
Ultimately, a Wild three-goal first period sunk the Ducks, and they played even the rest of the game to finish 5-2.
With the loss, their overall record fell to 4-7-2. Anaheim hasn’t won in their past four games.
The Ducks were 0-6 on the power play on Friday. The team is tied for 25th in the league in power play goals with six on the season.
Goalie Lukas Dostal started the game in net for the Ducks, saving 26 of 31 Minnesota shots. After missing the beginning of the season recovering from an emergency appendectomy, veteran goalie John Gibson was reactivated.
The Ducks let the game get away from them early in the first, with Minnesota Wild players Jake Middleton, Marcus Foligno and Kirill Kaprizov all scoring in just over a five-minute period starting in the seventh minute.
That put the Ducks in a hole they were ultimately unable to overcome, and both teams were scoreless in the second period. Fabbri put his team on the board with an unassisted goal two minutes into the third period.
However, Kaprizov then assisted on a goal to Marco Rossi and then scored another of his own three minutes later to put the Wild up 5-1.
Mason McTavish tipped in the Ducks’ final goal with less than a minute to go.
Next, the Ducks will look to get back in the win column when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday at 5 p.m.
