Hanifin leads Golden Knights to first road win of season at Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights finally managed to earn their first road win of the season in their 13th game, taking down the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Wednesday night. 

It was a huge night for Noah Hanifin, who used a pair of clutch scores in the third period to lift Vegas out of a 2-1 deficit. 

The 27-year-old fired a strike from distance to help his squad cash in with the lone power-play goal of the game. Minutes later, he came up big with the game-winning score as just under 49 seconds remained.

Hanifin seems to be finding his groove, now having scored in each of the squad's last two games. He had been unable to find the net throughout his first 11 games of the season. 

His first goal of the year back on November 2nd was an electric buzzer-beater to close the second period against the Utah Hockey Club.

The other two scores on the night for Vegas came from Jack Eichel, who got the scoring started with a first-period wrister, and Mark Stone, who provided the insurance on an empty-net goal with just five seconds remaining in the third. 

It was a solid night defending the net for Adin Hill, who earned a fourth consecutive victory. Hill stopped 27 of 29 shots from Edmonton, putting together a clutch shutout performance in the third period which allowed his offense to complete the comeback. 

He had allowed a pair of goals to Brett Kulak and Zach Hyman in the second as the Oilers claimed a 2-1 lead. 

William Karlsson picked up his 250th-career assist on Hanifin's game-tying score in the third, extending his point streak to five games. The 31-year-old is coming off of just his second 60-point season as a Golden Knight and will look to deliver another solid year as Vegas tries to fight back to the playoffs. 

It was Jack Eichel, however, who tied for the team lead with three points. Eichel's first-period score and assists on the late goals from Hanifin and Stone allowed him to bring his tally to 19 this season, trailing only Stone for the team lead.

With the victory, Vegas remains atop the Pacific Division with a total of 19 points. 

They will head to Seattle on Friday night as they prepare to take on the Kraken to finish off a quick two-game road trip.
