Vancouver Canucks blow right past the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday night

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks have now lost five of their last six games after a 5-1 loss at home against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.

Vancouver (6-2-3) had five different players score a goal while Anaheim's (4-6-2) only goal came early in the first period by Olen Zellwegger.

"They're a good team. They went to the (Western Conference) final last year for a reason," Ducks captain Radko Gudas said. "They believe in their group. They're shooting everything. They're very skilled. They move a lot on the blue line. They have confidence with making those plays."

Zellweger's second goal of the season came within the first six minutes of the game on a power play to give the Ducks an early 1-0 lead. Troy Terry and Mason McTavish both had an assist on the play.

"He competes and is up and down the ice and he's fearless and he's confident," Ducks coach Greg Cronin said. "He doesn't care what the score is. He plays to win every shift and that's what I admire really about him."

The Ducks finished the game with a total of 22 shots on goal while Vancouver had 38. Zellweger led the team in shots, being responsible for five of them.

Vancouver's first score came with three minutes remaining in the first period, scoring twice within a 58-second time differential. The first was from Brock Boser who scored on a power play. The second was from Kiefer Sherwood to make the score 2-1, which was enough to put Vancouver ahead for the rest of the night.

As the night went on, the Canucks scored once in the second period from an Elias Pettersson goal. In the third period, they had goals within the last eight minutes from Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen who had one within the last two minutes of regulation to put the game away and give it's final score.

Ducks captain Radko Gudas thought the team played great in the first period but felt like they shifted away from their gameplan in the second period.

"I thought we played pretty solid in the whole first period. Then in the second we kinda got away from our gameplan," Radko Gudas said "We just couldn't get going. Couldn't get quick shifts and got stuck out there on empty zone."

The Ducks had three power play opportunities in the game but couldn't get the puck in the net.

In the first two periods, Anaheim had a total of 14 shots on goal, splitting them at seven between the periods. 

In the third period, the Ducks' offensive approach changed quickly by firing on all cylinders and making six shots within the first four and a half minutes, putting them at 20.

As the game went on, nothing seemed to go right for them offensively, and finished the night with just three more shots.
