INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Clippers pull the “guerilla off their back” with a 113-104 win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. The Clippers win ends their three-game losing streak and the team is hopeful gives them a boost with a tough week ahead. The Clippers improve to 3-4 and finally pickup their first win in their new arena, the Intuit Dome.
Here are some takeaways from the Clippers win over the Spurs :
Sluggish start for the Clippers
The past few games the Clippers took advantage of sluggish starts from their opponents.
This game it was Los Angeles who started extremely slow. The Clippers trailed 40-14 after the first quarter.
They struggled to score at the rim and couldn’t knock down their open shots in the opening quarter.
For a team looking to see if they could play all four quarters. The first quarter was a complete disaster.
James Harden was left scoreless in the quarter as the Clippers struggled mightily.
It was the worst first quarter played by Los Angeles so far this season.
Luckily, the second quarter was just as bad for the Spurs as the Clippers won the quarter 34-16 to get back in the game.
Coffey just right!
The Clippers were in need of a playing stepping up to pick up their first win at home and they got exactly that.
Guard Amir Coffey was the much needed jolt this team was looking for to end their three-game losing streak.
Coffey who hadn’t scored in double figure so far this season had a great game to play his best ball.
Coffey and the rest of the bench helped the Clippers crawl out of a deep hole early they got them back in the game.
The former Golden Gopher scored 21 points and added 5 rebounds for the Clippers in their come back win.
He was on the floor to close the game for Los Angeles and knocked big shots and did a lot of the dirty work for the Clips.
Performances like tonight is what the Clippers need to pickup wins going forward.
With so much attention on Harden, Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac opportunities will be there for other guys to step up.
Coffey did just that.
Los Angeles win their first game in the Intuit Dome
The game didn’t start well for the Clippers but it ended exactly how they wanted it t.
After a slow start, the Clippers outplayed the Spurs the rest of the way walking away with their first win inside of their new home.
For the first four games in the $2 billion arena, the Clippers looked “cursed” said Harden.
If it was, now, the curse is broken. Los Angles is now 1-4 in their brand new Inglewood home and is hoping to add more wins in the building this week.
The Clippers will face-off against Paul George & the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night looking to add their next win at home.
