ONTARIO, Calif. -- Samuel Fagemo and Jack Studnicka both score two goals each in the Reign’s victory against the Henderson Silver Knights at Toyota Arena on Saturday night.
Ontario beat Henderson for the second night in a row, taking two of three games in this series.
“We carried the game over from last night,” coach Marco Sturm said in post-game interviews. “Even when we were down 1-0, our mindset was right and we stuck to it.”
Ontario had 50 shots on goal compared to Henderson’s 20.
Jakub Brabenec gave the Silver Knights their first goal less than two minutes into the first period. Ontario responded with a goal from Martin Chromiak seven minutes later.
Matyas Sapovaliv put Henderson back on top for a few minutes before Samuel Fagemo tied the game again with his first of two goals for the night.
During the first power play of the game for Ontario, Jack Studnicka scored a goal, giving the Reign their first lead with a score of 3-2.
The second period is where the Reign began to take control of the game.
Charles Hudon scored his second goal of the season before Tanner Laczynski added on the last goal for the Silver Knights.
Fagemo scored his second goal of the evening on a power play, the advantage in which Ontario had struggled to score in the past. But, confidence has made all the difference.
“It’s funny how it works right? Sometimes it’s all up between your ears,” Sturm said. “That’s what sports (is) all about. It’s about confidence and you can see the power play all (of) a sudden, things are clicking.”
Shawn Element finished the second period with a short-handed goal of his own as the Reign ended the period leading 6-3.
But, Ontario’s offense didn’t slow down.
Glenn Gawdin, playing his first year with the Reign, scored his first goal of the season, making this the third power play goal of the game. Studnicka later scored his second goal of the night in a two versus one matchup against the Silver Knights.
Studnicka credited a good net drive by Reilly Walsh who helped take the defender out for him, making it easier to score the goal.
The Reign won 8-3 over the Silver Knights, making their record 3-4-0.
“The game we played today, this is us,” Sturm said. “We stick together, we play really hard against our opponent and that’s the way we have to play every night.”
Ontario looks to take on the Abbotsford Canucks on Wednesday November 6 at 7 p.m. at the Toyota Arena.
