The San Diego State women's basketball team is coming off an appearance in the Mountain West Championship game, falling short to UNLV 66-49. The Aztecs finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-13 (10-8 Mountain West) record, posting a winning record in conference for a second straight year.

The road ahead to take that championship back in March will be anything but easy.

The non-conference schedule is a 13-game slate featuring six games against teams that won 20 or more games a year ago and four teams that made it to the post season. The Aztecs will also see Idaho State, which they haven't seen in over 10 years, and San Franciscpo.

SDSU will open with a preseason game hosting Cal State San Marcos, who went 27-7 last season and made it to the DII Elite Eight, on Nov. 4 and will play six non-conference games at home, four on the road and three in Mexico in the Cancun Challenge.

The Aztecs first road trip is on Nov. 8 against UC Davis, who made a run to the Big West Championship game, and the Aztecs picked up a 77-68 win in the third game of the season last year, finishing the game on a 22-5 run.

Over Thanksgiving the team will spend the holiday in Cancun, Mexico, where they will face Wisconsin (Nov. 28), Virginia Commonwealth (Nov. 29) and Providence (Nov. 30). SDSU won their only meeting against the Badgers in overtime in 2015. VCU went 26-6 last year, 15-3 in the Atlantic-10 and made it to the WBIT.

The only time SDSU faced Providence was back in 1989 with a 77-69 win.

The final non-conference road game is Dec. 11 at Cal State Fullerton. The Aztecs are 24-18 all-time vs. the Titans and have won 11 of the last 12 meetings.

The Mountain West conference season will consist of 18 games, facing every school home and away except for Boise State (home only) and Air Force (road only). The conference opener on Dec. 29 will be against Boise State, who the Aztecs beat 72-69 to advance to the championship game last year.

The first road game will be on New Year's Day facing Colorado State. The two teams split their games last year which included a dramatic 74-71 overtime win at home in the conference opener.

Another highly-anticipated game early in the season is New Mexico on Jan. 4. The second-seeded team in the conference last year were beaten by the Aztecs in a huge upset during the quarterfinals in the tournament.

The last game of the season will be at home on March 4. against Fresno State before the Mountain West Tournament.

San Diego State set a program record for attendance last season and will have all returning eligible players from last year's squad, including; all-conference forwards Adryana Quezada and Kim Villalobos, six newcomers (four freshmen), two of which are impact transfers Veronica Sheffey (University of San Diego) and Cali Clark (Colorado State). Erin Houpt and Trinity Zamora who were out last season due to injuries are back this season.
