WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday that the addition of former Nebraska and Central Florida coach Scott Frost to his staff, marking a significant change for the team.
According to McVay, Frost will assist special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn with his duties and help with the offense and defense.
"He'll help Chase out with special teams, but he'll also have involvement on offense and defense," McVay said. "Just to be able to get a quality caliber coach like him in the building, as you guys know, we've had a lot of turnover for the right reasons, and you can't have enough good quality people in-house."
In December 2002, while on the Green Bay Packers ' injured reserve list, Frost began his coaching career at Nebraska as an interim graduate assistant. Since then, he served in a bevy of coaching functions ranging from graduate assistant to head coach at Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Oregon, UCF, and Nebraska.
McVay said that Frost spent time with the team during the offseason and that the two share mutual connections.
"I've always really respected [him] from afar. He came out and spent a couple weeks with us this offseason, and there's a lot of mutual connections,"
McVay also said that he was a fan of Frost.
"I remember watching him do his thing at Nebraska. I was like fanboying him," McVay said. "But as a coach? I mean, he was obviously a good player in the NFL, played on special teams, was a really tough DB (defensive back), played the safety position. A lot of mutual connections.
"This coaching thing is a really small fraternity of people, and so we've crossed paths over the different years. And then just watching him from afar, and then getting a chance to see him spend time with our group and a lot of different people on our staff, felt like a really seamless fit."
