Dodgers' Freeman smashes 2 HR's, Ohtani steals 3 bases in rout of D-Backs

Freddie Freeman hit two home runs, his fourth of the series, helping the Dodgers to an 11-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Sunday.

Freeman is still managing a hairline fracture and missed the three games against the Baltimore Orioles at Dodger Stadium last week. Freeman returned to the lineup Friday and since then, he has gone 6 for 15 with four home runs and 10 RBI. 

He also reached the 20-home run mark for the 11th time in his career.

Shohei Ohtani recorded two hits and two walks and stole three bases, including second and third base on back-to-back pitches in the seventh inning. That brought his season total to a career-high of 46.

Ohtani has 44 home runs and 46 stolen bases in his first year with the Dodgers. He is perfect over his last 23 stolen base attempts.

In the third inning, the Dodgers started to put pressure on right-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Chris Taylor hit a double off the wall and Mookie Betts brought him in with a single. After that, Freeman hit his first two-run home run of the game.

Betts went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the eighth inning, raising his batting average to .301.

Will Smith contributed to the Dodgers' success by hitting a two-run single as they racked up 17 hits in the game. Smith himself had two hits, bringing his batting average to .247. In the series, he went 4 for 12.

Teoscar Hernandez had a perfect day, going 5 for 5 with a triple, double and three singles, but falling short of the cycle.

Rodriguez pitched for four innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, two walks and striking out one. This was his fifth start of the season, during which he has allowed 15 runs.

Right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty maintained an aggressive approach against the hitters, pitching for 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and one run while striking out seven. However, he also walked three batters, two of which occurred with two outs in the fifth inning, leading to his removal from the game.

Flaherty has won four of six games since joining the Dodgers, but he lost to the Orioles and the Brewers.

Corbin Carroll hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to bring in the first run for Arizona. The Diamondbacks did not score again until another sacrifice fly by Perdomo. Jake McCarthy then hit a grounder to the pitcher, bringing in another run.

The Dodgers were leading 11-3 when Eugenio Suarez hit a solo home run off Michael Peterson. Peterson had been called up on Sunday to assist the Dodgers bullpen. He pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one run and striking out two batters on 22 pitches.

Right-hander Brent Honeywell Jr. came into the game in the ninth inning, throwing 35 pitches and giving up two hits, two runs and one walk.

The Dodgers dominated the series, scoring 32 runs and collecting 52 hits. They gathered 17 hits on Monday, extending their lead to six games ahead of the Diamondbacks and 5 1/2 over the Padres.

After winning the series in Phoenix, the team will travel back to Southern California to begin a two-game series in Anaheim against the Angels on Tuesday. The Angels will start left-hander Reid Detmers (3-6, 6.14 ERA) while the Dodgers will start right-hander Walker Buehler (1-4, 5.88 ERA).
