San Francisco first-round draft pick, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, was shot in the chest in an attempted robbery Saturday afternoon at Union Station.
At approximately 3:37 p.m., San Francisco police officers responded to the area of Geary Street and Grant Avenue on a report of a shooting that left two men injured, per a San Francisco police department media release.
Upon arrival, police officers rendered first aid, and medics transported both subjects to San Francisco General Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Pearsall was signing autographs at the Cow Palace card show earlier in the afternoon, according to San Francisco mayor London Breed.
A 17-year-old male from Tracy, CA, approached Pearsall and attempted to commit an armed robbery using a gun. Pearsall and the alleged assailant struggled over the weapon before an expelled round struck Pearsall and the juvenile.
Officers assigned to the Union Square detail and Central Station responded almost immediately and arrested the alleged shooter as he attempted to flee the area.
"San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon. He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition," the 49ers said in a statement. "We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family."
Pearsall, 23, was drafted 31st in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Pearsall, who missed most of the preseason due to a shoulder injury, returned to practice this week.
