NBL Oz Gaming made a strong first impression in the NBA 2K League on Wednesday, winning both of their matches in their league debut during group play at the 3v3 Slam Open.
The Australian-based team defeated Raptors Uprising GC 3-1 and then topped Pacers Gaming by the same score, dropping the first game and then winning three straight both times.
NBL Oz Gaming are the third team in the 25-team NBA 2K League not affiliated with an NBA club. The other two are the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai and DUX Infinitos of Mexico City.
The Raptors opened with a 22-20 win before Oz rallied to take the next three games 21-14, 22-16 and 21-17.
In the Aussies' second match, the Pacers jumped on top with a 21-13 win, but the newbies then won 21-19, 22-12 win and 21-17 to take the match.
Jyden "Jyden" McBath-Spencer averaged a team-high 14.3 points per game for NBL Oz Gaming in the two matches.
In other opening-night action, Grizz Gaming swept Hornets Venom GT 3-0, Cavs Legion GC topped Pistons GT 3-0, 76ers GC dumped Mavs Gaming 3-0, Grizz Gaming clobbered DUX Infinitos 3-0, the Mavs dumped the Hornets 3-1, Heat Check Gaming took down the Gen.G Tigers 3-1, DUX stopped the 76ers 3-0, Gen.G edged T-Wolves Gaming 3-2, the Cavs beat the Heat 3-0 and NetsGC prevailed 3-1 over the Pacers.
The Slam Open's remote group play continues through March 17. Bracket play will run March 28-April 1 in Washington.
